Post-Remediation Verification (PRV)

Post-remediation verification (PRV) is the assessment, a visual and moisture inspection, sometimes plus air or surface sampling, that confirms a mold remediation reached its goal before the area is released back to occupants.

What is post-remediation verification?

PRV is the evidence behind a clearance decision. The visual component confirms no remaining visible growth or debris and that the structure is dry; the optional sampling component checks that airborne spore levels track the outdoor baseline again, the same indoor-outdoor ratio logic used during assessment. The target is return to Condition 1. IICRC S520 addresses post-remediation evaluation as part of the standard, cited here at topic level because the full text is paywalled, never with an invented section number (IICRC, About the standards). The EPA frames verification around the practical questions: is it dry, is the visible mold gone, has the moisture source been fixed (EPA, Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings).

Why it matters to a mold inspection

PRV is where a remediation either earns its sign-off or gets sent back. Sampling before the structure is dry, or before the moisture source is fixed, produces a number that cannot mean "done," which is a common documentation failure. Done by an independent assessor, PRV is the defensible record that the job worked, the document that matters most if recurrence is later disputed. See post-remediation verification sampling and post-remediation clearance criteria.

MoldMind captures the verification criteria, dryness confirmation, and any PRV samples as structured fields tied to the job, so a verification result is documented against the conditions it was taken under.
