MoldMind vs AI Mold Inspector: An Honest Alternative Comparison

Looking for an AI Mold Inspector alternative? A fair comparison: where AI Mold Inspector wins on price and where MoldMind does more per job.

By Nicolas Reimer, Founder, MoldMind · Published October 7, 2026

If you want the cheapest AI mold report tool, AI Mold Inspector is cheaper than MoldMind: $49 a month for 15 reports or $89 a month unlimited, against MoldMind's $99 for 15 jobs. The difference is what one unit buys. An AI Mold Inspector report is one inspection report; a MoldMind job is the whole engagement — assessment, remediation protocol, client letter and the clearance report on the return visit — drafted from one job's photos and lab PDF.

Everything said about AI Mold Inspector below comes from its own website, checked on 2026-10-07. Software changes; if you are reading this much later, check their pages yourself.

What does AI Mold Inspector do?

By its own description, AI Mold Inspector is "desktop + web software for mold inspectors": you collect inspection data in a desktop app for Windows or Mac, and AI generates an IICRC S520-based mold inspection report from that data, which you review, edit, brand and email as a PDF (AI Mold Inspector, homepage and FAQ). Data entry is room by room, photos are imported from your camera or SD card, and moisture readings are logged by hand (AI Mold Inspector, Features).

Lab results are entered, not read from the lab's PDF: its FAQ says species data is "entered manually with autocomplete for the top 20 common indoor mold species", with CSV import for major labs listed as a future update (AI Mold Inspector, FAQ). Once entered, it interprets spore counts against outdoor baselines and flags indicator species.

Where does AI Mold Inspector win?

Be clear-eyed about these, because they are real:

  • Price. $49 for 15 reports and $89 unlimited, with a 14-day trial of 5 reports and no card (AI Mold Inspector, Pricing). If you write one kind of report and your volume is high, unlimited at $89 is hard to argue with.
  • A native desktop app. It stores data in a local database on a Windows or Mac machine and works with no internet at all; only the AI generation step needs a connection (AI Mold Inspector, FAQ). MoldMind is a web app you install on your phone (a PWA); it works offline only for a job you opened before losing signal.
  • ERMI and per-section regeneration. Its features page lists ERMI score calculation and regenerating individual report sections (AI Mold Inspector, Features). MoldMind does not offer either as a named feature.
  • Brand colours. It advertises custom brand colours on the PDF as well as your logo. MoldMind carries your logo, firm details and license, in its own fixed layout.

Where does MoldMind do more per job?

The heart of the difference is where the work starts. AI Mold Inspector starts from data you have already typed in. MoldMind starts earlier, from the photo dump and the lab PDF: it sorts the photos, reads the meter displays and the lab's spore counts into tables, and drafts every document from that one set of data, so the counts in the protocol and the clearance match the assessment. Texas, New York and District of Columbia jobs also get a checklist of the elements those jurisdictions' rules require in the protocol and clearance, which flags omissions rather than certifying anything (see what each jurisdiction requires).

On price per document, the gap narrows. On monthly billing, MoldMind's Starter plan is $6.60 a job, and each job carries four documents.

Which one should you choose?

Choose AI Mold Inspector if you write one inspection report per job, you are happy to type the lab results in, you work from a laptop, and price is the deciding factor. It is a focused tool at a low price, and it is honest about the inspector being the final authority.

Choose MoldMind if your jobs routinely need a remediation protocol and a client letter as well as the assessment, if you go back for clearance, or if the hours go into sorting photos and re-keying lab counts rather than into the narrative. Look at the output before deciding either way: MoldMind's 44-page sample assessment, 30-page protocol, 38-page clearance and 6-page client letter all come from one demonstration job.
